History Of Computer
The computer word is come from Latin word "computare". Computare means "to calculate", "to count", "to sum" or "to think together". So precisely computer means a device that performs computation.
Father of computer
Charles Babbage is the father of computer. Charles Babbage was considered to be the father of computing after his invention of Analytical Engine. Charles Babbage invented analytical engine in 1837. Charles Babbage was born in Walworth, surrey on 26th December, 1791. Benjamin Babbage is the father of Charles Babbage and Betsy Plumleigh Teape is the mother of Charles Babbage. Charles Babbage attended Trinity, Cambridge in 1810 to study mathematics and graduate from Peterhouse in 1814. He receive an MA in 1817.
Generation of computer
Computer were developed in different phases. It's also know as generation of computer. Depending on technologies used computer is divided into 5 generation. These are :
- First Generation (1946-1959)
- Second Generation (1959-1965)
- Third Generation (1965-1971)
- Fourth Generation (1971-1980)
- Fifth Generation (1980-onward)
First Generation of computer:
The period time of first generation of computer is 1946-1959. First generation was based on vacuum tubes. The first generation computer were very large and generate a large amount of heat Because thousands of such bulbs were used in it. Magnetic drums and punch cards used in it. Magnetic drums were used for memory purpose. Punch cards were used for giving instruction and data.
Second Generation of computer:
The period time of second generation of computer is 1959-1965. Second generation was based on Transistor. Transistor were cheaper, consumed less power and it faster than vacuum tubes. The problems are solved. Heat and size of computer is reduced and the improvement is speed and reliability were increased. In second generation magnetic cores were used as primary memory. Magnetic tape and magnetic disks used in second generation as secondary storage.
Third Generation of computer:
The period time of third generation of computer is 1965-1971. Third generation was based on Integrated Circuit. Integrated Circuit content many electronic components like register, transistor and capacitor. In third generation of computer became very small with better performance and reliability. Many popular high level language like PASCAL and c were developed in it.
Fourth Generation of computer:
The period time of second generation of computer is 1971-1980. Fourth generation was based on VLSI Microprocessor. The integrated circuit were developed in fourth generation computer. Computer used LSI (Large Scale Integration) and VLSI ( Very Large Scale Integration) circuit. LSI and VLSI made computer more powerful, compact, reliable and affordable. In fourth generation Hard disk and optical disk were developed.
Fifth Generation of computer:
The period time of fifth generation of computer is 1980-onward. Fifth generation was based on ULSI Microprocessor. VLSI technology developed as ULSI (Ultra Large Scale Integration) technology. External storage is modified magnetic and optical disks.
Personal computer
The personal computer is a electronic device began with the micro computer revolution. The first personal computer produced by IBM. PC is short for personal computer. Ed Roberts created the first personal computer. The first personal computer made with IBM CGA monitor (model no. 5153), IBM PC keyword, IBM 5152 printer and paper stand. It has Intel 8088 @ 4.77 MHz CPU, 16 KB-256 KB memory, 1-channel square-wave/1-bit digital (PWM-capable) sound. It is created for individual use.
Laptop
Laptop was invented by Adam Osborne. First laptop release in 1981, it used the Zilog Z80 and Weighed 23.6 pounds (10.7 kg). It had no battery, 5 in CRT screen, and dual 5.25 in single-density floppy drives. On march 2011, Lenevo has built the world's first eye control laptop. Eye control laptop built with using eye tracking technology from Tobii.
